Teena Marie canta "Portuguese Love" (1981)

Teena Marie, de seu nome Mary Christine Brockert, nasceu em Santa Monica, Califórnia, em 1957. Apelidada de Lady T, Teena Marie foi uma das poucas cantoras brancas de funk e R&B a obter sucesso nos E.U.A. na década de 80.

Tendo assinado aos 19 anos pela editora Motown, Teena Marie foi uma das primeiras protegidas de Rick James, lenda do funk, autor de “Super Freak”.

Em 1981, lançou o seu quarto album, “It Must Be Magic”, que incluía “Portuguese Love”, em homenagem às suas origens portuguesas, e que foi lançado como segundo single.

"Portuguese Love" foi sampleado, em 2004, no tema "Child Of The Night" incluído no album “Red Light District” de Ludacris.

Um dos maiores sucessos de Teena Marie foi "Oh La La La" cujo refrão foi utilizado, em 1996, na canção "Fu-Gee-La" do grupo Fugees.
